For the seventh consecutive year, PREVI published its Social and Managerial Responsibility Report. This edition’s highlights were the actions developed in the social-environmental sector by the top 83 companies in Brazil.

The Reports’ numbers show that, in 2003, PREVI’s investments on those companies have made viable the generation of 51,576 direct jobs, besides the payment of over R$3,2 billion in taxes. Other R$2,1 billion was distributed in the form of wages, social securities settlements, private social security, benefits, and profit share. PREVI was also responsible for investments of approx. R$660 million in research and development, productivity improvement, increase on production capacity, education, training and development, and social programs for communities.

This project’s purpose is to generate jobs and quality of life for the 6 thousand inhabitants of neighboring communities to the Costa de Sauípe Complex. There are 26 projects aiming on generating education, job and income for a population that lives below the standards of poverty.
A program supported by the Berimbau Project allies revolutionary technology to a simple action: it is the Organic Fertilizer Plant project, which takes organic residues generated in Costa de Sauípe to a unit that produces and supplies fertilizers to the surrounding’s farmers.
Utilizing a biodigestor device developed by the University of Uberaba (MG), 8 tons of daily-originated organic residues from Sauípe are turned into fertilizer in only 4 days. By the regular methods, this process would last for aproximately 90 days.

PREVI contributes to the Zero Hunger Project by giving companies charge-free publicity spots, and discounts on the paychecks of retired associates and pensioners, in exchange of donations of home appliances and medicine to charity institutions registered with Banco do Brasil.
