Sustainability Report PREVI 2009

Companies and ventures in which PREVI participates

Companies profiles

All information concerning companies and real estate ventures in which PREVI has a stock participation were obtained by means of a questionnaire sent to each one of them. The selection of companies and real estate ventures contemplated in this report took into consideration the representative criteria and the significance of any such investment to PREVI. Thus, the only outfits that were requested to answer the questionnaire were that whose boards have members appointed by PREVI, or in which PREVI has an important participation, plus the largest real estate investments, large office buildings and shopping centers.

That questionnaire was prepared based on some of the indicators used by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and on the information obtained during the process of engaging PREVI's several publics to define the contents and materiality of such report. Were also taken into account the collection of data and information mapped in PREVI's social balance sheets from 1997 to 2004, intending to give continuity to our control of some indicators formerly solicited to the companies in the past. All together were invited to participate in the process 36 companies and 25 real estate ventures. Out of that total, close to 85 % accepted the invitation and answered the questionnaire. Only two of the companies and six real estate ventures declined to answer the same, for different reasons.

In the items below, always that the text makes any reference to the total of companies and real estate ventures in which PREVI participates, that total will refer only to the group of companies and ventures that participated of that survey by answering the questionnaire sent to them.

The total invested by PREVI in companies which were invited to answer questionnaires represents 57 % of that entity's investments in variable income. As to the real estate sector, the investment in the group of ventures invited reached approximately 67 % of total investment in that segment.

Among the companies that made their data available for the preparation of this report, the electric energy sector, with six companies, or approximately 21 % of the total, is the group that contributed with the highest number of companies. However, all the sectors indicated had a great relevance for this survey, since they are composed, in their totality, by corporations that have a significant importance for Brazil's economy.

PREVI's participation in the undertakings considered in this report oscillates between

0,4 % and 100 %. Among real estate ventures, the lowest relative participation is 15 %.

Large corporations compose the major part of those companies in which PREVI participates. The yearly gross income of 40 % of them is higher than R$60 billion. In 2009, only 10 % of them presented a gross income inferior to R$1 billion.

The Head Offices of those corporations and the real estate ventures with PREVI's participation are mostly located in Brazil's Southeast region, more precisely in the states of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. The real estate ventures alone show an even higher concentration in the Southeast (87 % of the real estate is in that region). As a contrast, none of the companies' head office or real estate ventures considered in this report are in Brazil's Northern Region.

However, the highest percentage (48 %) of the branches of the companies in which PREVI participates are located in the North and Northeast Regions. Out of a total of 276 branches declared by the companies, 82 are in the northeastern states and 49 in the northern ones.

Checking each state individually, we notice that São Paulo counts with the largest number of branches (21), followed by Bahia (16) and Rio Grande do Sul (15).
